The pick-to-light system is applied to the logistics industry as the auxiliary tool for picking operations and intensively being applied to the manufacturing industry, especially the kitting operation before the assembly work begins.
The most special application is the parts picking /kitting operation in the car assembly process of the automobile manufacturing industry. Nowadays, the car industry's orientation has been transferred from planned production to customized production, the mixed production for various car modes to be produced on the same production line.
The car assembly line is in an on-moving production line; the production line will stop the operation, and waiting for the incoming parts when the part arrived does not meet the requirement. It will severely affect the efficiency of a production line. So one of each assembly stop needs to prepare well the parts required for one of each car, which is the thing that anxiously needs to be resolved at the priority.
The size of parts apply to the car varies - some of the parts are big ( the glasses, does chaises, the air conditioner), and the others are small ( mirror, light shade). So the shelf will be divided into two types - the hanging type and flow rack based on the parts size. The hanging type is generally at a higher location, so trailed type pick to light is applied for the operator's convenience to proceed with the related confirmation process. For the flow rack picking area, standard picking tag is used to fulfill the operation requirement.
The pick to light(PTL) picking/kitting system firstly receive the working orders form ERP system; It will unfold the BOM list based on the working orders to analyze the belonging for one of each part which is either one tag-to-one part, one tag-to-multiple parts. And the sequence applied to the car is either forward or backward, more than four types of part pick-up is fully conducted through this picking/kitting system, the operator can fast and correctly accomplish the pick-up operation depending on the light and numbers shown in the picking tag.
